Chavez Describes Convicted Terrorist As "Great Revolutionary"
(RTTNews) - Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Friday defended imprisoned terrorist Ilich Ramirez Sanchez, famously known as "Carlos the Jackal," describing him as "one of the great fighters of the Palestine Liberation Organization" of his time.
The Venezuelan was arrested in Sudan in 1994 and extradited to France, where he was convicted for the 1975 killings of two French intelligence officers and an alleged informer. He is currently serving out a life sentence in a French prison.
"I defend him. I don't care what they say tomorrow in Europe," Chavez said, adding that (continued...)
